Mixed Friendlies Match Report.
Maidenhead Town v 3 Mile Cross
Maidenhead Town hosted 3 Mile Cross on Saturday 9 May for our second mixed friendly of the outdoor season—played in great spirit and even better company.
After a few trial ends, five triples headed out for 18 ends. The green ran well (rink 3 kept everyone honest), and both sides soon found their rhythm.
Maidenhead swept the rinks, but rink 3 was pure theatre. Julie Whitaker’s triple went into the last end 2 shots down—needing 3 shots to steal it.
With Town holding mat, 3 Mile Cross’ Captain of the Day Debbie Bisset had the final bowl. After the early woods, Maidenhead were 2 shots up…but it was still on a knife-edge.
Debbie drew one in close—Julie then removed it to protect the lead. The third shot was down to a tight measure, and Debbie’s last bowl looked perfect until it nicked a blocker and drifted away. After the tape came out, Maidenhead had the extra shot: 18–17. Cue a collective exhale.
Elsewhere, Town built steady leads for comfortable wins, with two triples finishing eight shots clear in the race for top rink.
Well done to mixed-friendly debutants Barbara Brooke, Kim Bailey and Ian Anderson—great to see you all in the action.
Back in the clubhouse, host Captain Danny Davies thanked 3 Mile Cross for travelling and for five good-humoured games.
Debbie returned the thanks, praising Town’s hospitality and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
Both Captains also thanked the catering team (Julie, Mary and Pauline) and Clive for keeping the bar flowing.
FINAL SCORE: 93 – 63
